Pakistani Christians Rally in London for Justice in the Wake of Jaranwala Tragedy

In a powerful display of unity and determination, over 300 Pakistani Christians gathered outside the Pakistani High Commission in London to protest the devastating incidents that unfolded in Jaranwala, Pakistan. The protest, held on Monday, August 21st, served as a resounding call against the burning of approximately 100 homes and 25 churches.

The event was not organised by a particular group but was a coming together of many Pakistani Christian groups. Prominent figures, including Bishop Michael-Nazir, Dr. Peter David, Asim Mall of PMRO, and Pastor Chaugtai from Birmingham and Juliet Chowdhry from British Asian Christian Association attended and spoke at the event.

Impassioned speeches echoed the collective resolve to seek justice and restoration for the affected community. A delegation engaged with the High Commissioner for Pakistan for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, stressing the urgency of the matter.

Renowned Gospel singer Hammad Bailey and his wife Sally Bailey led the attendees in worship songs, fostering an atmosphere of unity and hope. The peace rally proceeded to 10 Downing Street, where the demonstration continued, with the British Asian Christian Association providing water to the steadfast protestors.

During the gathering, Chairman of United by Faith Wilson Chowdhry addressed the attendees, shedding light on the profound impact of the destruction on the residents of Jaranwala. His impassioned speech emphasized the urgent need for decisive action, including arrests and convictions, to bring justice to the affected Christian community. Mr Chowdhry was not initially invited to speak but many of the participants knowing of his expertise sought his contribution.

Mr. Chowdhry went on to detail various forms of persecution and unjust laws that have kept Christians in a perpetual state of fear. His insights underscored the broader challenges faced by the Christian community, urging a comprehensive approach to address the multiple layers of discrimination and injustice.
